Long-distance RS485 networks can suffer from signal attenuation, waveform distortion, and reduced communication reliability as transmission distance increases and more devices are connected to the bus. The GLK-RS RS485 signal repeater is designed to restore communication quality through full digital signal regeneration and clock recovery, rebuilding weakened signals before forwarding them to the next network segment. It supports transmission distances up to 1200m at 9600 bps and can drive up to 32 standard RS485 nodes per output channel.
Instead of simply passing an already weakened signal further down the line, the GLK-RS regenerates the digital waveform to provide a cleaner and more stable signal for continued transmission.
Industrial RS485 networks often connect equipment installed at different locations and powered from different electrical systems. Differences in ground potential between these devices can create ground loops, introducing unwanted current into communication lines and causing unstable data transmission, communication errors, or electrical disturbances between connected network segments. The GLK-RS addresses this problem with three-way galvanic isolation that electrically separates the power supply, input RS485 bus, and output RS485 bus from one another.
This isolated architecture allows communication data to pass between network segments while preventing direct electrical coupling across the repeater.
Industrial communication networks are frequently installed near motors, variable-frequency drives, switching equipment, power cables, and other sources of electrical interference. Surge events, electrostatic discharge, and electrical fast transients can enter RS485 lines and disrupt communication or propagate toward connected control equipment. The GLK-RS combines isolated signal transmission with built-in surge, ESD, and EFT protection to improve bus reliability in electrically demanding industrial environments.
Rather than leaving the communication line as a direct path between field devices and the control system, the GLK-RS creates an additional isolation and protection barrier between network segments.
